You will Need:

• Sturdy Fabric (i.e. denim, decorator or drapery) to the size shown above.
• Thread to match your fabric.
• Sewing Machine 

The Pocket:

1. Cut one fabric piece 12" square.
2. Iron 3 edges under 1/2 inch.
3. Iron top edge under 1 inch and sew hem on the pocket.
4. Pin pocket on outside of bag fabric and sew in place.

	The Side Seams: Fold the length of the fabric in half with the right sides together. Using a 1/2" seam allowance, sew both side seams. Apply a seam finish (i.e. pinked, zigzag) to the seams.

	Finishing the Upper Raw Edge: Turn the raw edge under by 1/8" to 1/4" and stitch in place.

	Finishing the Top of the Tote Bag: Turn under one inch of the top edge to the inside of the bag. Pin in place. Stitch the edge in place stitching as close to the edge as possible.

	Squaring the Bottom of the Bag: With the bag wrong sides out, fold the sides of the bag to be over the bottom fold of the bag. Measure 2" from the point and sew a straight line across the bag as shown in the photo.

	Straps: Fold strap fabric in half with wrong sides together and stitch. Turn right side out. Repeat with other piece of strap fabric. Place straps 3" from side seam and pin in place. Test for even placement by refolding the bag matching side seams.

	Sew the Straps to the Tote Bag: Sew a square at the end of the strap to attach it to the bag.

	Finishing the Bag: Turn the bag right side out and press if needed.
